Pli-Dek waterproofing solutions meet new California fire requirements

High-performance deck and patio system from ICP has passed a 30-minute ASTM E84 fire test, now a requirement for decking materials in California.

ICP Building Solutions Group (ICP BSG) announces that its Pli-Dek® waterproofing solutions have demonstrated the performance necessary to meet stringent new fireproofing requirements in the state of California State Fire Marshal, resulting in the issuance of a Building Material Listing Wildland Urban Interface (WUI), Listing No. 8110-2327:0500.

As of November 2020, the California Residential Building Code requires that all decking materials must pass a 30-minute ASTM E84 fire test, which evaluates key fire resistance characteristics of building materials. Pli-Dek “F” System is now the only cementitious waterproofing solution to meet this new requirement. Previously, California required that decking materials only pass the ASTM E84 10-minute test.

“California legislators are doing everything in their power to shore up the fire resistance of homes and buildings in their state as a result of several consecutive record-setting wildfire seasons,” said Adrienne Malek, Vice President, Waterproofing, ICP Building Solutions Group (ICP BSG). “We had every reason to be confident that the Pli-Dek system would meet the new performance requirements, so we accelerated our testing to prove it. This is the same tried-and-true formulation that professionals have relied upon for decades.”

Pli-Dek “F” System is applied to plywood substrates to create beautiful, durable and high-performance decks, patios, walkways, as well as various other areas. While Pli-Dek meets California’s new fire requirements on its own, the system can be combined with ICP BSG’s Fireshell® thermal and ignition barrier coatings to create an even more robust solution (second Building Material Listing application pending).

In addition to the E84 test, the Pli-Dek systems have been through extensive ASTM testing certifying Pli-Dek’s high performance in even the most demanding applications. For more information about Pli-Dek, visit www.PliDek.com
