Little Giant Issues Ladder Safety Training Tools

Ladder safety tools support National Safety Month.

The numbers are shocking. Every day 2,000 people are injured while using ladders; 100 suffer a long-term or permanent disability; and tragically, one person dies—every day.

The common phrases “I’ll be careful,” “It won’t happen to me,” “I’ll just change the light bulb really quick, and then I’ll get down,” result in unnecessary injuries and deaths.

“Today, tomorrow and every day one person will die in a ladder accident,” said Ryan Moss, CEO of Little Giant Ladder Systems and Vice President of the American Ladder Institute. “Rather than running from them, we are embracing the statistics and doing something about them. Little Giant’s overriding goal is to prevent injuries and save lives. Moving one person off that injury and death list, saving one life—that is what gets us up in the morning and helps us sleep at night. We want to literally change the world, one ladder at a time.”

There are several ways to make ladders safer. Most ladder companies choose to use warnings, but it is a known fact that most people choose not to read warning labels, and others choose instead to supplement traditional ladders with fall protection. Little Giant Ladder Systems chooses to create innovative safety features that help prevent falls in the first place.

“It’s better to build a fence at the top of a cliff than to park an ambulance at the bottom,” said H. Arthur Wing, President. “The industry practice for decades has focused on fall protection. However, fall protection does not prevent injuries. Little Giant’s efforts to steer the industry toward fall prevention focus on the real problem. We will help prevent injuries, save lives.”
